All New Avengers // artwork by Stuart Immonen, Yildiray Cinar, Russel Dauterman and Sara Pichelli (2014)

Well, Marvel’s big event of this year (Axis) hasn’t come out yet but we already know the outcome will be a brand new team of Avengers as Steve Rogers and the classic Thor will lose their mantles and will pass them on to new bearers. Sam Wilson the longtime hero “The Falcon” will don the red, white and blue costume while sporting the classic wings of his former namesake along the shield. A “familiar face” in the Thor lore will be worth it of the mantle of Thor as hinted by Jason Aaron. And Tony Stark will go the “Superior” route becoming more of a bastard while donning a new all-white suit or armor in a new location (He will move to San Francisco). The Avengers will also get an extreme makeover paring down the “army” feel of the roster to a more manageable team including (l to r, top to bottom): Medusa, The Scarlet Witch, Superior Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, The Winter Soldier, Angela, Thor, Captain America, Hellstrom and Deathlok.

Another shocking move by Marvel to keep readers hooked I guess. Since I’ve reading the publisher for years I’m accustomed to these "bold changes" that tend to last very little (specially when you got a big movie featuring the original characters coming up next year). And while I think this could make for a really good story a la Superior Spider-Man I will not hold my breath for it since It feels very rushed, a move done to avoid a bullet released by the recent Kirby State lawsuit heading to the supreme court. Also, am I the only one who thinks that  making one of your most popular characters wear an all-white garment and call himself “Superior” it’s a little politically incorrect?

"Also, am I the only one who thinks that  making one of your most popular characters wear an all-white garment and call himself “Superior” it’s a little politically incorrect?"

Are you serious? They killed off Steve, a beloved character, so that a character of color can be the new Captain America and you’re going to nitpick Iron Man’s suit color and the fact that a man KNOWN for his boasting and ego is calling his new suit “superior” as if Marvel’s entire goal all along was some kind of white supremacy secret agenda?

It’s people like you that have to read so heavily into every little thing and take every little thing the wrong way that made them kill off Steve and get rid of Thor. These characters that so many people have come to love are now ruined because Marvel is trying so hard to cater to everyone except fans of some of their oldest and most well known and loved characters. So thanks for that. Thanks for avidly searching like some kind of starving scavenger for shit to be offended by.

Why aren’t you saying that killing off one of their biggest characters to replace him with a character of color is a little politically incorrect? Because it fucking is.

Casual reminder that in the 2001 Green Arrow reboot*, we literally see Jason Todd swinging his way around Heaven in his Robin outfit
*Or, as I call it, That Time Green Arrow Visited the Afterlife to Find His Missing Soul BECAUSE COMICS**
**It’s actually Green Arrow v.3 #1-10, also known as Green Arrow: Quiver, if you’re interested. The panel is from issue 7.

JUST SAYING, the main plot of Quiver is that, when Ollie is resurrected, he’s actually a hollow - a body without a soul.
And here we see Jason’s soul swinging around the afterlife, after he’s (retconned to have been) already back to life.
Hmm.

I have been wrestling that plotbunny for two years now, Sage. It will not behave.

Oh wow. I never realized this.

Couldn’t it be a representation of the fact that that part of Jason Todd is dead?

I just wanted to let everyone following me because of Queen’s Crown know that I AM working on the reboot series of pictures and there are definitely a bunch of new characters to look forward to.

I’ve also got some interesting plans for the series but we’ll have to see how that plays out.

In the meantime, I’m working as fast as I can in between commissions and getting everything figured out for my move to a new house next month (fingers crossed the home inspection pans out!) and then my wedding.

My life has become far more chaotic than I’m used to and dealing with it is tough but I promise I’ll get it all done ASAP!
